Muharram:-

Muharram is the name of a holly month. Mainly Muharram is the actual festival of "Shia" religion. In this festival "Shia" people remember the sacrifice of "Imam Al Hussain(R) with a painfull heart. Because this month only for the Islam, Imam Hussain (R), grandson of Hazrat Mohammed (SM), killed during battle of "Karbala" on 10 october 680 AD. That day "Shia" Muslim people arrange a great procession which start from "Hoseni Dalan" situated in old Dhaka.This festival also called "Pobitro Ashura". During Ashura both Sunni & Shia followers join the procession which parades through the city streets. In this occasion some "Shia" Muslim people torture their body with sharp sword, stick etc to fell the sacrifice of Imam Hussain (R) shouting with "Hai Hussain, Hai Hussain". At the present Muharram is observed in the remote areas of districts of Dhaka, Manikgonj and Tangail in somewhat different fashion. But" sunni" Muslim people do not agree to celebrate this festival such this way. In this day they pray to Allah for the Imam Al Hussain (R).
