Buddha Purnima:-
In Bangladesh Buddha Purnima is one of the biggest religious festivals to the Buddhists. Buddha Purnima is observed to mark the birth anniversary of the founder of Buddhism, Lord Buddha. It is celebrated all over the country on the full-moon lunar day in the bangla month of Baisakh (April-May) . THe day is celebrated to observe three significant incidences of Lord Buddha's life that is the Buddha's birthday, attainment of supreme enlightenment and achievement of Nirvana during the time of his death. In this day various events and celebrations are arranged by the Buddhist to make the as a grant event. People pray and utter summons which related to the life of Lord Buddha, religious discussions are also arranged. On the other hand, there is also arranged a Meditation which is considered as a major event on this occasion. Colourful processions are also taken out to the street. Apart from this people also gather to the statue of Loard Buddha for pray as well as enjoy the day.

After arti people remember the Lord Krishna by singing a song:
"Krishno a-lo a shangshar a
Anondo aar dhorenare"
On the other hand different types of programmes are held durring this Janmashtomi. In Dhaka there is arranged a prade marking the birthday of Lord Krishna. The most attractive features of this parade is the custom of derssing up as Krishna, Radha, and other characters from the life of Krishna. On this occasion people really like this kind of parade and they eagerly wait for this turn back.

Janmashtomi:-

Janmashtomi is another important festival in Bangladesh which celebrated by Hindu religion. Janmashtomi means the birthday when Loard Krishna was born. It is celebrated in mid-August to mid- September. This day is public holiday. Hindu people fast on this day, usually a waterless fast. They spend the day immersed in Shri Krishna's glory by reading or singing his divine leela. Especially in the evening in the temple. At mid night the Lord's birth hour, arti is performed. After that every Hindu women cook different types of delicious dishes in their family . But in their dishes 'Makhan' (butter) is especially included. Because ShriKrisna loved this in child hood. The most interesting item is made on the occasion is the traditional prasad called "Panchajiri". Which made of five ingredients: Powered ginger,'suva', coriander, sugar and ghee. Other ingredients include poppy seeds and dessicated coconut shavings.

Every Year the annual Jaggannath Rath Yatra starts from the Swami Bagh temple and go on till the Dhakeshwari National Temple which situated in Dhaka. On the other hand, in Bangladesh there are lot of teples like Comilla Jagannath temple, Dhamrai Jagannath Rath and the Jagannath Temple, Pabna and other temples also organize this festival.In this festival all kinds of people can join this Yatra. The most significant of this festival is it teaches us that during the respect to God there is no descrimination between the Hindus, Muslims or other religions.

Rath Yatra:-

Rath Yatra is another festival to Hindu religion in Bangladesh. During the month of June (Rainy Season), this festival is held throughout the world as well as in Bangladesh. In this festival the deities- Jagannath(Krishna), Balarama and Subhadra are taken through the streets so that everyone can have the oppertunity to see them. It is belived that in this festival Jagannath, Balarama and Subhadra visit to their aunt's temple by three highly rich decorated chairots which sructure like a temple and it's hight is 45 feet.

Chaitra Utshab:-

Chaitra utshab is another festival in Hindu society. Basically this festival is a village festival. This festival is celebrated in the month of chaitra in every year. The day before pohela Baishakh and the last day of the Bangla year is called chaitra utshab. It's another name is "Chaitra Shankranti". All the Hindu villagers participate to celebrated this day. In north Bengal there is a traditions of cooking a special kind of "Khichuri" on chaitra shankranti. The Khichuri require 7 types of shaak, of one them have to be titaari shaak. In this day there is also enjoyed a charak Mela. In this mela is celebrated by "Dhukies"(drummers) all around of Bangladesh and west Bangladesh. All through Chaitra, dukhies dance and rejoice on the streets and market places of villages together with the rhythm of their drums. But it is a regret matter that, the practice of this Chaitra utshab is declining day by day.

In this day women wear white sari with red border and play with shidur.Different types of mela, dance,songs are organized for enjoying this day. The most interesting part of theis puja is eating 'Naru, Proshad,Batsha, and many items. So it is Durga puja where we learn the sense of brotherhood and friendshipness.

Durga Utshab:-
The biggest religious festival of the Hindu community in Bangladesh is the festival of Durga puja. Hindus participate in this festival with great devotion. Durga puja is an old festival but it is difficult to say with any degree of certainty exactly how old it is. The oldest manifestation of goddess Durga, who slew the Mahisasura, belonged to the 15th century AD. Usually on the 6th luner day of the bright fortnight in the Bengali month of Ashwin, the ceremony of Durga puja take place. After that puja is performed for three days on the 7th, 8th, and 9th. But the absorption of the image of the goddess Durga takes place on the 10th day. In Dhaka the big celebrations are held at Dhakeswari Temple. The significance of this festival is very high. Durga puja help us to realize "womens power". It also teaches us the sense of brotherhood. In Durga puja people forget their religious stage and share their gratings each other.

In our Bangladesh Shab-e-Barat take place as an excited festival. On the occasion the preparation of celebrating this festival starts before the night. Women are being busy to make Halua and Ruti. And distribute them among the poor, neighbors and relatives. This custom encourage brotherhood in the society which is undoubtedly admirable.

Shab-e-Barat:-

Shab-e-Barat is another biggest festival to the Muslim society in Bangladesh. Shab-e-Barat means "Vaggo Rojoni". Laylatul Barat starts at the 15th day of Muslim month of sha'ban. The night of the 15th starts at sunset on the 14th and ends at sunrise on the 15th. Actually in Shab-e-Barat the festival starts at the night. The holy Shab-e-Barat is the night of fate. In this night, annual fate..that is ..Taqdir is made sure. So, we should pass this night we can make our fate favourable and very gracious by proper prayers. Our beloved prophet Hazrat Muhammad (SM) said that a man can change his fate by prayers.

In spite of being some confusion about the Muharram , Muslim society believe it is also a one of the biggest festival in bangladesh, there is no doubt.

Muharram:-

Muharram is the name of a holly month. Mainly Muharram is the actual festival of "Shia" religion. In this festival "Shia" people remember the sacrifice of "Imam Al Hussain(R) with a painfull heart. Because this month only for the Islam, Imam Hussain (R), grandson of Hazrat Mohammed (SM), killed during battle of "Karbala" on 10 october 680 AD. That day "Shia" Muslim people arrange a great procession which start from "Hoseni Dalan" situated in old Dhaka.This festival also called "Pobitro Ashura". During Ashura both Sunni & Shia followers join the procession which parades through the city streets. In this occasion some "Shia" Muslim people torture their body with sharp sword, stick etc to fell the sacrifice of Imam Hussain (R) shouting with "Hai Hussain, Hai Hussain". At the present Muharram is observed in the remote areas of districts of Dhaka, Manikgonj and Tangail in somewhat different fashion. But" sunni" Muslim people do not agree to celebrate this festival such this way. In this day they pray to Allah for the Imam Al Hussain (R).

Eid-ul-Azha:-
Second biggest festivals of the Muslims. It is held marking the hajj in Mecca on the 10th Zilhaj, the lunar month. Eid-ul-Azha is held throughout the country. Animals specially cows, goats, camel or buffalo are sacrificed in recollection of Hazrat Ibrahim's (AM) preparedness for the greatest sacrifice of his beloved son to Allah. It is Eid-ul-Azha that help to learn us about the sacrifice to others. In this day rich people give the meat to the poor people thats why poor people can enjoy their Eid day. In Eid-ul-Azha the most interesting thing is the competition to buy a cow or other animals. In this day people also enjoy this day like Eid-ul-Fitr.

As Bangladesh is full of colourful festivals what are known and unknown to us. I would like to introduce some important and regular festivals which are held all the year.

Eid-ul-Fitr:-
We know Bangladesh is a Muslim country. So as a Muslim i want to explain first about our biggest Muslim festivals"Eid-ul-Fitr".Muslims fast throughout the month of Ramadan to wellcome the moon of Eid-ul-Fitr. Eid help us to learn about the brotherhood and influence us to be a social person. The most special sign of this festival is in this day every peope go to the eidgah to pray for Allah. After pray people can get together themselves that can increase friendship between two Muslims.One of the main features of the Eid festival is the preparation of special food and drink. The food would include korma, polau. and various types of homemade snacks likePitha,Noodles, Semai and Jarda. In this day people visit their relative's house & also visit park to enjoy their Eid. Eid also help us to forget the difference between rich and poor.
