Durga puja is an old festival but it is difficult to say with any degree of certainty exactly how old it is. The oldest manifestation of goddess Durga, who slew the Mahisasura, belonged to the 15th century AD. Usually on the 6th luner day of the bright fortnight in the Bengali month of Ashwin, the ceremony of Durga puja take place. After that puja is performed for three days on the 7th, 8th, and 9th. But the absorption of the image of the goddess Durga takes place on the 10th day. In Dhaka the big celebrations are held at Dhakeswari Temple. The significance of this festival is very high. Durga puja help us to realize "womens power". It also teaches us the sense of brotherhood. In Durga puja people forget their religious stage and share their gratings each other.
